Field Hockey Defeats Brewster in Wednesday Afternoon Contest

EXETER - Moxie crushed Brewster yesterday, avenging their loss from Saturday and bringing their record up to 4-2. Brewster started the game out very aggressively, getting on the scoreboard first, but Moxie came back after a time-out with vengeance, scoring four unanswered goals in a 4-1 Big Red win.Moxie, in unusual fashion, started the game off slow, and initially had a hard time keeping up with the aggression of the Brewster offense. “Brewster scored quick and they were playing really well aggressively, and that threw us off a little. After a quick pep talk during the coaches’ strategic timeout, our team matched Brewster’s intensity and played the way everyone knows we are capable of,” lower Noa Siegel said.“We got a timeout and after that, our momentum changed,” agreed senior captain Hannah Wellington. When Moxie gained their needed fierceness in the middle of the first half, the whole game turned around. “The second half was great; the team had great momentum,” Siegel said. When asked how the team changed after the timeout, Siegel continued, “We pulled it together mostly by trusting our skills and cheering each other on, just playing like a team.” Moxie started putting their skills to use and realized what they needed to do to beat Brewster. “We started to work well in defense and pass more instead of trying to dribble up the field,” Wellington said.Moxie scored two goals quickly at the end of the first half, going into halftime with a 2-1 lead.Throughout the second half, Moxie kept the momentum going that they had built up earlier in the game.“We just adjusted well after the first half. We started cutting better, which helped a lot. We also didn’t let their annoying aggression get to us,” Siegel added.Overall, Moxie played an intense game; everyone contributed and played their best. “Everyone played pretty well once the whole team started working together,” senior Charlotte Haslett said. The team saw an especially great game from senior Sammy Attar, who played an outstanding game on offense, scoring one of the team’s four goals. In addition, lower Az Nalbandian played a great game in the goal, fending off the Brewster attack and only letting in one goal. “Az is an amazing goalie, especially for having started playing this season with no prior experience,” lower Noa Siegel said.
