The boys’ varsity ice hockey team played against Dexter this past Wednesday. After a hard-fought game, the team conceded 5-3, but their hard work and effort were displayed throughout the match.
On how the game went, senior Luke Zucker commented, “A slow start killed us, so we were down 4-1 early on but then came back to make it 4-3.”
Senior Will Cavanagh described how the team anticipated the game. “We know that Dexter Southfield is a good team—they are a top-five team in NEPSAC,” he said. “We came out a little flat off the bus. However, we played well at the end of the game.”
The game was especially tense during the third period. “We got the score back close with about six minutes to go. However, we ended with a bad bounce and went down two goals,” Cavanagh said. “We were still in striking range, so it was a good game. But it was definitely tense.”
Cavanagh praised a few players. “Tyler Callander, Joe Sasso, and Luke Gurkan played well on one of our lower lines. Additionally, Brendan St. Peter made a lot of good plays and assisted two of my goals.”
On goals for the rest of the season, upper Andrew Boova shared, “We need to be making sure that we aren’t taking shifts off, making sure that we’re using our teammates, moving around, and getting a good pace going in the beginning.”
The team will continue to work hard through the rest of the season in order to become the best they can be. “We’re excited for the season, and we have a good future,” Cavanagh concluded. “We’re going to turn the page on our season and go in a really good direction from here on out.”
