Moulton Elected ‘14 President

When 2013 Senior Class presi- dent Alex Yang graduates at the end of this term, the leadership position will be filled by the newly elected 2014 Senior Class president, upper Nate Moulton. In addition to being a leading presence in Student Council over the course of his Exeter career, Moulton has served as a member of the Academy’s Discipline Com- mittee.Moulton said he was humbled by the election to this coveted role in Student Council.“I’m so excited that my class- mates chose me to be their class president. It’s a huge honor. Next year should be a blast,” he said. “It’s my great honor to serve the Class of
2014 as their president. I’d like to thank everyone who supported me through the election.”Yang expressed full confidence in Moulton’s abilities to handle the role smoothly.“I personally know Nate Moulton very well, and I have no hesitations about his work ethic and ability to connect with his peers. I’ve known him to be someone who is fiercely determined to get done what he sets his mind to, and with the support and ideas from his fellow classmates, I’m sure he will do just that,” Yang said.StuCo advisor Carol Cahalane also mentioned Moulton’s impres- sive resume of past work for StuCo.“Nate has done excellent work as the Elections Committee head thisterm. He kept the process well- organized, thought things through well in advance and avoided potential problems,” she said. “Nate is very organized, fair and hard-working. He is very thoughtful and consider ate of others.”
Yang also spoke of the sense of duty and respon- sibility that comes with the position.“The role of Senior Class president has each and every day made me ask myself how I can better serve my classmates,” he said. “It’s definitely not easy because as much as you get praise for your decisions, you get an equal amount of criticism.”Yang said that ultimately, the interests of the Se- nior Class must remain at the front of the president’s mind.“I think the job has taught me both how to com- promise but also remain true to what I believe is best for the class.”Moulton has exciting prospects for ideas to benefit the Senior Class’ final experiences at Exeter.“I’d like to have a free Las-O night in Agora for seniors and a class Battle of the Bands. There’s so much opportunity for events between 9 and 10, when only our class is allowed out on campus,” he said. “The seniors v. faculty dodge ball tournament was a big hit for this year’s Senior Class, and I think we should consider continuing that.”Another important aspect of the Senior Class president’s duties is to aid the class in selecting a thoughtful Senior Class gift. Moulton would like to invest in a class gift that would sincerely live up to the Academy’s “non sibi” motto.“I would like to direct our class gift to a truly non-sibi cause, perhaps something in sustainability; however it’s too early to tell exactly what we will end up choosing,” Moulton said.

The other elected Class of 2014 representatives are Nikhil Chuchra and Nina Meyers, who will serve alongside Moulton as Senior Class vice president and treasurer, respectively.

Chuchra and Meyers, like Moulton, hope to makethe class’ senior year a memorable one filled with fun events.“My hope is that the other reps and I can pull off a senior year full of memorable events, a great Senior Class gift, class gear that we will want to wear for years to come and a great prom,” Chuchra said. “Since we’ve all been in the process of planning and organizing class events before, we have the tools and skills necessary to get events approved and give our class what they want.”Meyers agreed. “I just want to build off of the great foundation that the previous class reps laid during their time as reps and make sure that the Class of 2014 is creative in its ideas and unified, so that no one will forget us,” she said.Chuchra spoke of Moulton’s passion and dedica- tion for benefitting his class in any way possible.“I think Nate will take on the position as president with a vigor and passion that hasn’t been seen in the past,” he said. “He really does love our class and he really does love Exeter, and will do anything to make sure our next year is a great one.”In addition, Chuchra commented that a positive aspect of the three elected representatives working together is the diverse range of voices they will be able to represent.“Between the three of us, I think we span the ma- jority of our grade socially. I can honestly say that most of our grade has weekly interactions with at least one of us,” he said. “This is especially helpful in knowing what our grade wants.”“Our main job is really to be the liaison between student and faculty for the Class of 2014, and knowing almost all the grade on a one-to-one level is a huge step in the right direction.”
