The Exonian Named National Finalist
The Exonian was the only high school newspaper in the Northeast named a national Newspaper Pacemaker Finalist Wednesday. The Exonian is one of 18 finalists (and one of two finalists located on the East Coast) in the Broadsheet 9-16 Pages section.According to the National Scholastic Press Association, “judges select Pacemakers based on the following: coverage and content, quality of writing and reporting, leadership on the opinion page, evidence of in-depth reporting, design, photography, art and graphics.”In order to compete for the award, The Exonian submitted one issue published in fall 2012, two consecutive issues published in winter/spring 2013, and two issues of choice from the 135th board’s work. The Exonian received Finalist honors in 2011 and won first place in 2007.“We’ve worked very hard this year in The Exonian, and I’m extremely proud of our board,” Editor-in-Chief Victor Wang said. “Of course I hope we win, but nevertheless, I am happy with what we’ve accomplished so far.”The winners will be announced at the Journalism Education Association/National Scholastic Press Association Fall National High School Journalism Convention on November 14-17 in Boston.
