D-Hall Creations
Have you ever wanted an option other than endless sandwiches, salads, or snacks to fill you up when the D-Hall foods just seem to be below average? You can now turn the sometimes “meh’” foods in D-Hall into “great” with these amazing and mind-blowing creations!
Want a pumpkin spice latte to get your fall started right and create that perfect basic fall Instagram photo? Unfortunately, the closest Starbucks is more than seven miles away from campus, depriving many cold Exeter students of the warmth of the latte to fight the seasonal gloominess. Luckily, we’ve come up with our own recipe!
First, grab a mug and fill a quarter of it with coffee, more or less depending on whether you want a darker or lighter color and more or less caffeine. Add some cinnamon sugar blend into the coffee and stir it to dissolve the sugar. Then, add milk according to taste and fill up the rest of the cup. Top it off with some more of the cinnamon sugar blend and whipped cream and you’ve got an easy PSL for free!
Do you miss homemade (we mean microwaved) pizza bagels? No fear, just make your favorite snack, bigger, more customizable, and healthier in our very own dining halls. Just grab a bagel of your preference and run it through the toaster until it reaches a firm texture. Then, add a sauce of your choice to one of the bagels. I prefer Exeter’s own marinara sauce, and top it off with some cheese and some meat that you like. Any of the toppings can be replaced with anything that fits your dietary needs. Finally, put the other side of the bagel on top of the “pizza” and put it inside the panini press. Make sure that when you are pushing down that you don’t apply too much sudden pressure, or the contents of your bagel will squirt everywhere. Cook for 45 seconds to a minute and you’re all ready to eat!
Bubble tea enthusiasts, it’s your time to rise! In addition to Exeter’s lack of PSL’s, authentic milk tea is nowhere to be found. In case you don’t know what bubble tea is, it is a popular and delicious Asian drink. The possibilities of bubble tea are endless and able to fit any taste preferences! The base is usually made out of a milk tea and is super customizable, as it can be infused with flavors such as taro, mango, and many more. The “bubbles” or “pearls,” are usually small, chewy balls of tapioca, the trademark of bubble tea. You can also choose to replace or add in more fun “boba,” such as coffee jelly, strawberry jelly, pudding, popping bubbles with juice inside, and many more!
Curious about what it tastes like? Here is an easy recipe to make the base of the milk tea: seventy percent sweetened iced tea and 30 percent of one percent milk. Mix it together, and you have your classic milk tea. To customize, you can make it sweeter by adding more of the sweetened ice tea and more milk to make it less sweet. Moreover, you can be more adventurous by adding apple juice, grape juice, or peach and citrus juice cocktail to add a shot of flavor.
Finally, I bring to you a delicious hot day treat—perfect for when you need something sweet to cheer you up—and a special memory of many childhoods: the banana split. Peel a banana (or two!) and put ice cream in between the two fruits once you have laid them down on the plate parallel to each other. Feel free to top it with flavorful toppings such as berries, chocolate syrup, or more fruit. It will take you right back to the hot and carefree times of the summer, swinging your feet on the docks with ice cream dripping down your chin or on your shirt. It might just be the thing to get you through that essay or project!
With a little effort and creativity, you can create almost anything you want to eat and remember at our amazing dining halls.
