Trendwatch

Hey guys!

The weather has been very nice over the past two weeks. The sun is shining, but the warm clothes have already been put away. However, there are still skirts and shorts around occasionally. Emmy Goyette ‘19 looked very chic in her all black outfit. The dark pants and jacket complemented her grey scarf. Abigail Africa ‘17 also embraced the warm weather in a grey skirt and long scarf. Silas Lane ‘18 wore the most interesting outfit, a baggy white linen t-shirt and his new Stan Smiths. His throwback, forest green Fila jacket, was definitely a step up in his game. Margaret Coogan ‘17 stunned us all at Winter Formal in her fitted red dress, which stood out from the wonderful crowd. Oge Ezekwenna ‘18 was bundling up for the in-coming draft. With his hat, his sweater and scarf, he had the classic look of a famous actor who was avoiding attention. Ignacio Roitman ‘17 rocked an Argentinian rugby shirt. The thick striped polo was very durable and warm. My favorite part about these shirts were the rubber buttons attached to it.

With the winter coming and everyone’s outfits changing, I have realized a big distinction between the American and Spanish cultures through their differences in fashion. During my year abroad in Spain, I was up close and personal with the Spanish trend. When it started to get cold, all of the Spanish teenagers started to look more and more alike. They all wore the same exact outfits, boy and girls alike. Everyone wore thick olive colored jackets, with fur around the hood and light blue acid washed jeans. In our school, I see that the students tend to wear the same brands rather than the same style. Patagonia, Canada Goose and Vineyard Vines are the most common brands we tend to wear. Although we wear the same brands, all of our styles differ and we consistently try to find the special or new product that stands out from the rest. It is interesting to think about the fact that our culture has loyalty for certain companies we trust and that we have a constant support for their products. Whereas in Spain, people pay more attention to the quality and style no matter where it comes from and who made it. This is only one of the amazing differences in fashion that illustrate our mentality in comparison with other cultures.

Stay stylish,

Caroline & Connor
