Hey, fashionistas!
Congrats on making it through the year! We hope you are excited for a summer full of bikinis, lemonade, and “Orange is the New Black.” We sure are!
To wrap up one of the most fashionable years yet, we are highlighting a few seniors who have demonstrated exquisite fashion sense throughout their time at Exeter. Chudi Ikpeazu ’16 kept it cool in long cardigans often paired with sneakers and cool jewelry. Some of our favorite outfits of his this year include his Abbot Casino look: a short sleeved black cardigan over a grey turtleneck and black pants, with round-framed sunnies, a gold chain, and a wide-brimmed black hat. We also enjoyed his McConnell tea outfit, a unique patterned white dress shirt, black pants and brown oxfords. Zaidee Laughlin ’16 is another senior who pays attention to the details. The mother of the undercut trend on campus, we credit Laughlin for mastering layers. Our favorite looks of Laughlin’s were her signature pairings of high waisted boyfriend jeans with tucked in tees, the crop top and white maxi skirt combo with a turquoise necklace she wore to the Alumni induction dinner, and the black belted embroidered dress worn with black sandals.
Ashley Baxter ’16 is known for her whimsical pieces and colorful prints. We love Baxter’s front tie blue crop top and full mid-length white skirt embroidered with flowers that she wore at Wheelwright Tea. Baxter also has a great ability for looking chic and comfortable, like the time she rocked a modern ensemble of black velvet pants, white sneakers and a light grey pullover. Not only is Tommy Song ’16 a musical legend, but he rocks his style around campus. Song can often be found in a white button down tucked into form fitting dress pants and a uniquely colored jacket. We especially liked the baby blue blazer he wore to Wheelwright Tea this spring, and the structured grey jacket with a velvet collar he debuted at Abbot Casino. Lexi Butler ’16, one of Trendwatch’s former writers, is known for her effortlessly cool look. She often seen with her denim jeans, white t-shirt, and black leather biker jacket, a classic edgy chic look that she pulls off extremely well. Not only does she experiment with different fashion styles, but she is also fearless with it comes to makeup. Her dark lips and platinum blonde hair gives her look a unique vibe and definitely makes her stand out from the crowd.
Chris Lee ’16 always keeps it classy. He is known for his preppy style and is often spotted with his blazer, dress shirt, loafers and Ray-Bans. We especially loved the green blazer that he wears to keep warm and stay stylish at the same time! We want to give a shout out to Antonio Guanaes ’16 for having one of the most coveted sneakers of this year, Kanye West’s Yeezy Boost 350. Not only does Guanaes have nice footwear, but he also has cool and hip street-style. He is often spotted around campus with his maroon colored bomber jacket that completes his look! Julia Bornemann ’16, another former writer for TrendWatch, pulls off every outfit that she wears. She is constantly experimenting with new style whether it be an oversized flannel paired with denim shorts and white sneakers or a white t-shirt, checked pants and stilettoes. Bornemann is also one of the best-dressed students on campus during winter term. She always looks classy in her classic Burberry trench coat and an oversized scarf that completes the look! Emma Kim ’16 definitely has one of the most unique styles on campus! She is fearless when it comes to fashion and is often spotted with fun and unique clothing items such as her yellow-smiley face Doc Martens and painted army jacket. We love it whenever Kim wears cool accessories like her fedora to complete her outfit or sports her bright colored lipstick to add a pop of color. Will Ettinger ’16 is awesome at balancing preppy and trendy. We love the pastels he always wears paired with loafers. Ettinger’s signature is his floral shirts. Our favorite look of Ettinger’s was his Lobster Dinner outfit, a blue dress shirt with a white collar, seersucker jacket, and Nantucket red pants. He combines classy and clean in a style that makes him always look put together.
We have a summary of the spring trends that we have seen around campus this year! This term, we have spotted many ladies wearing colorful flowy shorts that are often paired with basic color tops. Not only are these shorts stylish, but they are also extremely comfortable and helps the ladies keep cool on the hot days. Whether is be on the runway or on campus, we have seen the off-shoulder tops and dresses everywhere. We have seen this trend since last year, and we are seeing it more and more this spring. Many ladies on campus pair the off shoulder tops with simple pants and dresses with minimal jewelry. These off-shoulder clothing is a way for ladies to show off a bit of skin while still abiding to the dress code When we think about men’s fashion on campus this term, we automatically think about the Hawaiian shirts that many guys wear on campus. These shirts add a pop of color into the outfit and are often paired with simple neutral colored shorts. White sneakers have definitely been a trend for everyone on campus. Not only are these shoes comfortable, but they are also extremely easy to pair and will automatically makes an outfit look chic and fashion forward. White sneakers have been in trend since the beginning of the school year and we are expecting to see them next year too! Another item that we have seen more students wear this year is the baseball cap. These caps covers messy hair, blocks the sun and rain, and automatically makes an outfit look casual and cool. We are expecting to see this trend trickle into fall term of next year!
Again, we want to congratulate all the seniors for making it through senior year; you guys all deserve a big round of applause. Don’t forget that fashion is a creative form of self-expression so don’t forget to have fun with fashion and stay true to your styles. Have a sunny and relaxing summer break!
Stay stylish,
Caroline and Tanya
