Green Corner
Sustain is Exeter’s new eco-friendly magazine, recently approved by the publications committee, that hopes to inform the Exeter community about local and international news regarding the environment and sustainability.
We believe that building an environmentally-conscious school will foster a healthy community, stimulate conversation and hopefully make students hungry for change. Without Sustain, the school lacks a platform to express ideas regarding the environment, prohibiting the engagement of students with extremely important topics.
Sustain will publish each term and will have five different sections of critical, fun and interesting articles, which include: World News, Campus News, Opinionated Articles, Environmental Art and an Advice Column.
We know that a lot of the students, faculty and staff in the community are interested in making our campus a greener place, but are unaware of what is currently being done by clubs and the administration. Around campus, we have heard people claim that nothing is being done and that the school needs environmental clubs. What they don’t know is that we have around 10 clubs which fall under the sustainability category and that all of these clubs are taking initiatives to make our campus more environmentally friendly. We plan to highlight everything the different clubs on campus are doing for the environment and get students, faculty and facilities to write articles on their perspectives on sustainability.
Apart from what is going on campus, Sustain also plans to highlight important news occurring around the world, bursting the Exeter bubble and allowing people to look at current global problems. We will also broadcast innovative solutions that can be implemented on campus.
Connected to the world news, students will also be able to share their own perspectives with opinionated articles that Sustain plans on publishing. Different points of view help jumpstart community conversations about the issues occurring around the world and are a starting point for a greater change.
The Art section is a space for students interested in environmental art, cartoons and humor to share their projects or ideas that are interesting to them. We have the ambition to show different medias that communicate a message towards a cleaner environment.
The Advice column will pursue the goal of informing the campus on simple and quick ways to change your daily routine to favor the environment around us.
Sustain believes that the greatest threat to our planet is the common belief that someone else will save it. Don’t wait until tomorrow, write now.
