Trendwatch

Hey trendsetters,This week has been horribly chilly, so props to you guys for still looking wonderful! Particularly eye-catching were Isaac Fingerson ’17, who rocked a gray bow tie sweater ensemble. Tommy Song ’16 looked cozy in an olive winter coat, a knitted maroon scarf and matching pants. The boys’ varsity basketball team have been rocking the athletic chic look while keeping school spirit high with their matching team gear. Yena Cho ’16 and Claire Dauge-Roth ’17 looked adorable in matching chunky knit turtlenecks this weekend.Up and coming brand Marques ’Almeida have been attracting with their recent collections which focused heavily on monochrome palettes and varying textures for plenty of excitement and change. The designer duo is looking to make their new collection “more abstract” and involve simple silhouettes and palettes. This week we also remember recently deceased David Bowie. He was a fashion icon of the late 20th century, and consistently rocked bright colors and prints, as well as daring cuts. He was not afraid to cross boundaries in art, whether through music or fashion. His androgynous style has affected many to this day, and has certainly changed the way fashion is viewed today. Thank you Bowie for sharing your art with us.The Milan Fall 2016 menswear shows were inspired by the word reality—real life, real wardrobe, real clothes. Prominent pieces were the MA-I flight jacket and, of course, classic tailored suits. Slouchy lived-in silhouettes took over the stage where usually there are glossy thongs and other unwearable items. Pieces had to be authentic and relevant. Designer Peter Dundas asked himself “What are the pieces that I truly believe are believable?” The emphasis on reality takes away from the evasiveness of fashion, and makes it truly everyday. Finally, this week is looking to stay chilly! Keep an eye out for a snowstorm this weekend though. Stay cute and warm with tailored trousers and a wool or down jacket. Accessorize with accent pieces such as scarves or hats within your color palette, and you’ll have a chic and wintery outfit in no time!Stay warm and until next week!Julia and Lexi
