Trendwatch
Hey trendsetters!
Welcome back to winter term! We’re only here for a few more days, so let’s make them count. This year has brought us some really strange weather, and we’re not entirely sure how we feel about it—sure, having above a freezing-point temperature is a really lovely surprise, but does this mean that we will have an endlessly long winter, with snow well into the spring? Rather than fuss about it, we’ve seen you all take full advantage of the temperature and have looked impeccable. We’d like to welcome Tierra McClain ’16 back to campus, and the style queen did not disappoint. She looked so cozy wearing a black maxi dress, cape, gray scarf and boots. Cam Gruss ’17 rocked a blue look with a light blue sweater, khakis and blue tinted brogues. Hannah MacKay ’17 is also back on campus and looked beautiful in a black tartan top, simple necklace, black skirt, tights and combat boots. Dean Rosanna Salcedo has been looking great this week, rocking magenta red lace up boots. Steve Upton ’16 kept it classy (even on a Saturday!) with a blue button up, lobster bow tie, khakis and a blazer. Following the tie trend, Ernesto Brown ’16 looked fresh in a seersucker shirt, dark olive tie, khakis and dress shoes. Finally, Henry Tan ’19 looked festive in dark blue corduroys, blue plaid shirt, a not-so-ugly Christmas sweater and suede shoes.
This week, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is coming out, and we’re eager to celebrate the great series’ return with some out-of-this-world fashion choices. Play with some holographic materials, or incorporate metallic fabrics or textures into your look for some galactic influences. Even play with your makeup and add some glitter to serve as stardust, or go for graphic eyeliner or wacky hair for some alien looks. Make sure to ground the ensembles in some solid basics though, to make sure that you bring them back down to earth.
Speaking of out-of-this-world trends, this holiday season’s most fashionable looks are centered on unique materials. For more formal occasions, stand out in metallics, ornate beading and velvets. But for the casual events, look for suedes, leather and high shine fabrics.
This season’s staple look has just been named by Vogue: the metallic midi skirt. Its versatility and flirtiness make it a must-have. Dress it up with heels and a tight top or dress it down with booties and a turtleneck—either way, you’ll be bound to get compliments.
Happy holidays to all! Until next year.
xoxo,
Julia and Lexi
