Life Advice

Hi, guys!

I hope Hallo-weekend treated everyone well! Here are some miscellaneous questions I have answered that will hopefully help you all out.

How do I get into college?

I can’t say there’s a foolproof way to get yourself into college, but getting good grades is a start. If that doesn’t work, you can always try bribing or harassing the admissions officers at your favorite school and try to convince them that you’re the best candidate for their school. However, I am pretty sure that is not the best approach. If you just try your hardest, good things will come, and if you don’t get into college, it’s not the end of the world because you might be the next Sir Richard Branson!

When I’m at dances, I never know the right moves. How can I learn to master things like the “whip” and the “nae nae”?

If you don’t know what these moves consist of, I can’t give you the step-by-step low down in writing, but I would advise you to search them on YouTube and watch a few dance tutorials. If you’re at a dance, or anywhere else, and you’re not sure how to do the hip moves, my advice is to act confident. If you pretend like you know what you’re doing, people will catch that vibe and do the same thing and not be worried about the technicalities of your moves. If you want to spice it up, throw a stanky leg in there every once in a while. The general rule of thumb is that if you move your body with confidence and have a good time, you have achieved the goal.

How do I get food after check-in?

If you’re a lowerclassman or an upper, then you have until 9:30 to order from somewhere in town. If you’re a senior, you might have to order before check-in or make a stop at Grill. There’s always the option of asking a friend for a snack to hold you over until breakfast the next morning.

Where are the best places to order from or go out to eat?

There are a lot of really good places around Exeter, so it really depends on what you’re in the mood for. If you’re feeling a salad or sandwich, Green Bean is the place to go, but sadly they don’t deliver. Another option is Las Olas (commonly referred on campus as “Laso”) where you can get a burrito, taco, salad bowl, nachos and more. But again, Las Olas isn’t on the delivery list. However, there are a few places where you can get good food, but where you also have the option for delivery. Good Karma Cafe serves all kinds of burgers and bowls. You also have Front Row or Supremes, both pizzerias with awesome calzones and pizzas. It really depends on the mood you’re in, but all these places and the ones I didn’t get a chance to mention are really good and worth a try!
