Trendwatch

Hey, trendsetters!

This week we’ve seen a lot of summer references in campus style, and we’d like to thank you all for reminding us of sunnier times. Chudi Ikpeazu ’16 rocked a plaid-lined jean jacket and a white sweatshirt with the words “SUN SHINE” printed and a pair of black, rolled up pants with high socks. We spotted Brycen Yarmo ’16 in casual shorts and a short sleeve red and white seersucker button down to compliment a pair of cute, printed mid-calf socks of dancing, sunglass-wearing pineapples. Jacqueline Cho ’19 looked cute in a khaki high-low dress and kept it simple with black accessories. Anna Clark ’18 also looked fantastic in a vintage inspired outfit, featuring a unique centrepiece: a vintage maroon letterman with achievement patches scattered along the back. Claire Dauge-Roth ’17 also looked great in a simple red chiffon dress, paired with elegant brown suede accessories.

To upgrade any simple fall outfit, use some of these trendy tips inspired by Vogue: printed tights are making a comeback and add an element of style and quirkiness to any outfit. Either stay classic with a sexy single seam at the back or go all out with patterns, colors and prints. Statement blazers/knit jackets are also a must have for the transition time and have been displayed beautifully on runways recently. Alternatively, throw on an oversized turtleneck to effortlessly create a chic, boyish silhouette. It’s the best of both worlds—style AND comfort!

The beginning of October has marked the end of the 2015 Fall Fashion Month, and we want to highlight the biggest street style trends from the month. Suiting outfits paired with a sexy heel have been seen at every Fashion Week. Some of our favorite takes on this look include the oversized blazer and the matching patterned blazer and trouser. Caroline de Maigret sported this trend in an all grey suit with bell-bottom trousers at the Stella McCartney show.  The newest “in” material is glossy leather. It has has been seen used for almost every article of clothing; from jackets to booties and skirts—it’s everywhere. Kendall Jenner was spotted at the Shiatzy Chen show in a silver shiny leather skirt and Asian inspired high neck, pink blouse. Shearling coats are in and we’re loving it. Not only is the comfort undeniable, but this season it has become the re-vamped version of the oversized sweater.

Rihanna was seen at the Dior show rocking these last two trends. Her pink and shearling coat balanced her knee-high black glossy leather boots. Additionally, M.I.A. rocked an all white, oversized shearling coat at the Stella McCartney show this Fashion Month. Midi slip dresses have also made a huge appearance on and off the runway; it’s a great piece because the accessorizing and styling options are endless. As seen on Leigh Lezark at the Chloé show, snakeskin boots are all the rage. This classic pattern has been making a remarkable reappearance. There have been mixed feelings about the beret’s comeback, however, fashion icons in support of the trend such as Janelle Monáe have been sporting the look all month.

xoxo,

Julia and Lexi
