Trendwatch

Hey, trendsetters!

This week we’ve seen the sun peek out again, even if just a little bit, and outfits on campus have been looking amazing. Winslow McDonald ‘18 rocked the neutral palette in a brown blazer, paired with a terracotta bird print tie and khakis. Lydia Wickard ‘16 brought some edge with a grey jersey midi dress with a cheeky slit up the side paired with combat boots. Mary Woo ‘17 played up the schoolgirl vibe in a varsity inspired sweater and a plaid skirt. Chris Lee ‘16 stayed classy this weekend and wore a dark green blazer paired with khakis and a teal tie. Assistant Principal Ron Kim looked great in a blue seersucker blazer with grey elbow patches and matching buttons. He pulled the ensemble together with the classic combination of a crisp blue oxford and black slacks. History instructor Aykut Kilinc stayed on trend and wore a blue velvet blazer.

In other news, Alexa Chung, partnered with British Vogue, recently launched a video series in an effort to dig deep into the fashion industry and increase transparency. Chung guides us through various levels of the field, ranging from interviewing famous designers to discussing the importance of having brilliant seamstresses to actually create couture garments. She highlights the different aspects of production that oftentimes get overlooked, and places importance on much of the behind the scenes work that is never really exposed otherwise. She brings the seemingly glamorous industry down to earth and stays honest with viewers. The series is still running, and is coming out again this week on the British Vogue Youtube channel—check it out!

Chanel stunned at Paris Fashion Week, debuting a gorgeous ensemble. The collection was based largely on bright prints and loud patterns, not sacrificing on style or statement pieces. In true Chanel fashion, there were a number of loosely woven/knitted jackets and blazers, playing with accents and prints to keep things interesting. Other key pieces were in soft pastels and neutrals, beautifully juxtaposing the brightness of the rest of the collection.

As we fade into the winter months, sunglasses are generally not seen as much. However, recently they’ve made a comeback for the cooler seasons, playing with the ski goggle look, but paired with everyday chic ensembles. The polarized, oversized, bright orange and blue goggles may harken memories from ski lodges in Aspen, but when paired effectively, can make major statements on an otherwise simple outfit.

See you next week!

xoxo,

Julia and Lexi
