Life Advice
Hi, wonderful readers! This week we have a theme for Life Advice, and that theme Love and Relationships! Very exciting!! I hope these answers help you navigate the twists and turns of your love life!
I really like this person, but we don’t talk that much, so I don’t know if they feel the same way. What should I do?
Definitely don’t purposely try to avoid talking to them at all costs because they might get the wrong idea. Although it’s easy to fall victim to the good ol’ Exeter tradition of “we made eye contact, but looked away so quickly did we really even see each other?” try to at least make small talk with the person, so they don’t think you hate them. Once it’s clear you’re at least friends, I’m sure it’ll be easier to figure out whether or not you guys are a perfect match.
How do I know if I’m dating someone after we’ve gone to EP?
If the person didn’t say, “Do you want to make this official?” or something along those lines after they dropped you off at your door, or it’s the first time you guys have hung out ever, you’re probably not in an exclusive relationship. My advice would be to not jump the gun, but if you really like someone and want to take it to the next level, don’t be afraid to ask them the widely dreaded question, “What are we?” because you just might find someone that really wants to be with you.
Do I want to “Netflix and Chill”?
If you don’t know what that phrase means, you’re probably too young to be doing it. But if you do understand the meaning of the three words that have taken the internet by storm, then this is really only a question you can answer for yourself. If the person that’s asked you to “Netflix and Chill” is someone you care about and want to have some kind of relationship with, then I would say go on ahead and get your chill on. But if you’re unsure about what level you and the person are at, maybe suggesting a trip to the library would be a better idea. It all really depends on how you feel about the person and what makes you comfortable.
The first dance is coming up this weekend, but I’ve never been to a high school dance before. What should I expect?
Rumor has it ‘Back in Black’ will be lights on this year, so I’m not really sure what you should expect. One thing I can definitely tell you is, even though the name of the dance may make you think you should wear black, unless you live in Dunbar, you should wear any color but black. Also, be reasonable and realize you’ll probably have a much better time just dancing around and having a good time with your friends instead of being jostled in a steamy pit of sweaty, hormonal teenagers trying to get a little too close for comfort. Try to just have a good time and not worry about who is dancing with whom because at the end of the night, you want to go home with just your sweat on you, not 30 other people’s too.
Thanks for reading and remember you can always send questions to iedo@exeter.edu because it’s really nice and I appreciate it <3 Until next week!
