Trendwatch

Hey, trendsetters!

It keeps getting hotter and hotter, and we’re loving it. Hemlines are rising even more and gorgeous ensembles are out! This week, Harry Tibbetts ‘15 looked dashing in off-white trousers, a light shirt and suspenders. Tanya Wongvibulsin ‘17 also looked lovely in a navy midi skirt paired with a neutral floral top and statement flats, proving that you don’t have to flash skin to be trendy in the spring! Megan Smith ‘16 rocked a black statement skirt with a mesh panel and a fuzzy blue sweater and chunky boots, pairing feminine and grunge aesthetics. Cory Mengden ‘17 rocked a very preppy look with multicoloured striped trousers, a white shirt, pink tie and a patriotic belt. We loved Saisha Talwar’s ‘15 beautiful lavender top with a gorgeous collar detail paired with a gray skirt. Soren Rossi ‘17 looked wonderful in a coral shirt with navy shorts matched perfectly with his navy and coral floral tie. Looking trendy as always, Kimberly Dawes ‘15 was spotted in an amazing floral print leather vest and comfortable linen pants. We appreciated the all white ensemble worn by Ivy Hong ‘17; her metallic sneakers really popped against the dead-white bodycon skirt and flowy top. Margaret Cohen ‘15 kept it stylish and casual in her flowy Thai patterned shorts and white top.

In the world of fashion, Louis Vuitton recently launched their new Spring/Summer collection by Nicolas Ghesquiére in Palm Springs. Models walked through the enormous estate wearing loosely chic pieces: A-line mini skirts, desert boots, blousy crops with crisscrosses and cutouts, as well as plenty of LV’s signature leather and suede. It was regarded as a free-spirited and uninhibited collection, channeling Californian vibes across the globe.

In more serious news, the Danish Fashion Institute has passed requirements for models in the fashion industry to better relationships with self image and body confidence. It discourages many of the extremes that have been criticized over the past few years on the media, and set into action an obligatory health check for all models. This will remain true for all models at Copenhagen Fashion Week, demonstrating a wonderful change in attitude toward body image and health in the industry.

Monochromatic outfits will never go out of style; they’re simply too flattering and easy. However, the colors and style will change. This spring we’ve seen a lot of bright colored monochromatic outfits, especially in blue hues. Pairing slightly different shades of the same color can really make the outfit stand out. It’s a great way to throw together an easy and complementary ensemble while keeping in touch with the spring theme.  Yes, of course, you could always stick to the classic neutral-colored ensemble, but why not change it up a little with some color?

The star of The Hunger Games, Jennifer Lawrence, was just named the new face of Dior beauty. Her natural aesthetic will be the center of their fall ad campaigns, promoting 44 new shades of lipstick. She is no doubt an amazing role model and therefore is the perfect person to have as the face of a makeup line.

On May 12, it was announced that supermodel Cara Delevingne will be starring in the new sci-fi movie Valerian. We know there is much excitement surrounding this announcement and, of course, the question of whether Cara Delevingne can really act or if she’s just a pretty face. Hopefully her acting career can be even half as successful as her modeling career!
