Trendwatch

Hey, trendsetters!

This week has been hot! We’ve seen tanners littered across quads getting their bronze on. Please be careful, though, and don’t catch a burn like we did. Love yourselves and wear sunscreen!

On a lighter side, we’ve seen a couple of lovely looks, starting with Hannah MacKay ‘17 who looked like a beautiful fairy in a flowy peachy midi skirt paired with nude heels and a white top. Drew Goydan ‘15 also looked fabulous in a statement red racecar printed dress, channeling timeless vintage vibes. Tagging along with the warm tones was Yena Cho ‘16, who wore a simple yet elegant fuchsia cutout sundress. We really appreciated Evan Crawford’s ‘15 tropical vibes with his surfer patterned seafoam button down paired adorably with a pink tie. Elaney Ortiz ‘17 kept it cool with her statement neon green nails and white jeans, perfect for this weather. We loved Alex Rothstein’s ‘17 comfy and casual style with her oversized black and white caftan and black romper. Zaidee Laughlin ‘16 also rocked her effortless style in a navy patterned crop top paired with a spring skirt and mid calves. We’d like to give a special shoutout to Jake Willett ‘15 for his special May 4 (Star Wars Day) outfit. He was seen on campus with a transformers short sleeved button down, batman boxers poking out of his classic nantucket reds and, to top it off, he was hauling his books around in a Yoda backpack.

This week the iconic Audrey Hepburn would have turned 84 years old. To celebrate her chic legacy, we’ve compiled a couple of quick fashion tips:

1. Midi skirts. Invest in them for an effortlessly classy look.

2. Do not be afraid of bling. Work it.

3. Borrow from the boys and wear an oversized button down. ~I woke up like this~

Thanks Audrey for keeping us elegant and inspiring everyday style.

Consistent with previous speculations for the season’s most prominent colors, black, purple and vermillion dominated the red carpet at the Met Gala this past week, with Dame Helen Mirren, Rita Ora, Amal Clooney and Reese Witherspoon looking absolutely ravishing in deep crimson gowns. The classic darker looks were also prominent, with Cara Delevinge, Janelle Monae and Gabrielle Union looking gorgeous. Prom dress hunters take note from these queens—keep it simple with rich colours and textures. After all, less is more!

On the side of beauty and makeup at the Met Gala, jade eyeliner was a big hit. Beyoncé looked flawless as always with this unique look paired with her sequined sheer dress. Not only has jade eyeliner been huge on the Red Carpet, but it’s becoming a trendy look for day-to-day makeup. Model Karlie Kloss posted a stunning selfie on Instagram of herself applying mascara to top-off her jade eyeliner. We really love this color because it isn’t too bold and can be worn without it being over-the-top, but at the same time, it’s flirtier and more fun than your basic black.

Who ever said layers were only for the winter? This spring we’ve seen a lot of cute and cool layering techniques; the key is to choose the right fabrics. Try pairing an open chiffon button down with a light cotton tank. On a windy day, an oversized cotton cardigan would go effortlessly with your favorite sundress.

Looking ahead at the forecast—brought to you by Trendwatch’s private geologist—we see there’s a rain storm rolling in at the beginning of next week. Warm and rainy spring days can be tricky, so here are some tips. You can easily throw on your favorite pair of rain boots and a cute skater skirt / light sweater combo. And, yes, Hunters can be worn with skirts; they’re not only for pants. If you’re not into the whole “rain boots on a hot day” thing, and you’re willing to risk your shoes in the rain, you can toss on a light waterproof jacket over a casual summer dress. Good luck and have a fabulous week!

xoxo,

Julia and Lexi
