Life Advice

Hey readers,

Hope you’re enjoying the warm weather and the blue skies. This week, a lot has happened on campus from college decisions to promposals, and I wanted to give my take on these things going on. Here’s my takeover of Life Advice for a week. Enjoy!

Q1: What’s the best way to prompose?

A1: If you want to go the unoriginal way, you could always make a sign or ask somebody in front of the whole school at assembly. Some creative ways that’ve happened so far have been a staged swordfight and a promposal worked into song lyrics during an EP. You may want to go with something sweet and get them chocolates or you could get their friends involved for a big surprise. To be completely honest, though, it depends on the person you’re asking. Some people may want a grandiose display while others might want a more intimate promposal. Go with your gut and hopefully they say yes.

Q2: How do I get a prom date?

A2: Find somebody who you’re comfortable around. The worst thing to do is ask somebody who you don’t know at all just so you have someone to go to prom with. You don’t want it to be an awkward time. Prom is supposed to be fun, so keep it that way. Ask somebody who you like, don’t be scared about rejection and just go for it.

Q3: What’s all of the rage about “dadbods?”

A3: I have no clue. For years, I’ve always thought girls go after the jacked, ripped guys. Recently, with the sudden popularity of dadbods, this has not been the case, so I am wholly confused. Maybe this fad will pass over, or maybe it will continue this way. It’s a normal looking body, so just take it as good news if you’re not Dwayne Johnson.

Q4: I’m still undecided about which college to go to. How do I choose?

A4: First off, congratulations on getting into college—I’m sincerely worried that I won’t get accepted to any. But to get back to the question at hand, make sure to visit each of your choices if you get the chance. By going to each campus you can get a feel for which school makes you feel the most comfortable. College should be a fun time in your life. It’ll be where you make friends that last you a lifetime, so try to make sure you can envision yourself at that school for the next few years. Ultimately, if you’ve applied to these schools and they’ve accepted you, they’re probably a good fit for you, and as a student at Exeter, it will likely be difficult for you to make a bad choice.

Q5: All these standardized tests are stressing me out! What can I do to destress?

A5: I feel your pain. I took the SAT this past Saturday and an AP exam on Tuesday. I hate them. You may feel a lot of pressure to do well on them for college, but don’t let the pressure get to you. If you’re feeling too stressed out, take a break. Go to Stillwell’s, hang out with friends at Grill, toss a frisbee in the quad. I cannot emphasize this enough: DON’T LET THE STRESS GET TO YOU. Call a friend from home, bump some music or watch some Netflix. In the end, you’ll land on your feet even if you fail the tests. Good luck!

Your friend,

Ben
