Life Advice

Spring term is really and truly upon us. Green grass and blue skies are the new snowstorms and cloudy days. Here at Life Advice, we’re enjoying the beautiful weather, so we wanted to give you guys some helpful tips for making the most out of your spring term. Enjoy.

Q1: Spring term is the term of love. What’s the best way to show my affection to a potential partner?

A1: Great question. We appreciate and respect the power of love. Lots of dorms have their annual teas in the spring, and inviting your special someone to your dorm tea is a great way to solidify things in the love department.

Q2: Everyone is talking about bridge jumping and swimming in the river. Isn’t that against the rules?

A2: Absolutely. Both the Academy and the town of Exeter frown on it. Anyone who bridge jumps, swims in the river or even touches the water is a hooligan and a troublemaker and should be labeled as such. Don’t let yourself be peer pressured. Just say no.

Q3: I’m having trouble staying focused in class and often find myself staring out the window marveling at the lack of snow. How can I fix this?

A3: This is a problem that many of the finest Exonians have faced. Lack of sleep is usually a contributing factor when someone is having trouble concentrating. Make sure to catch as many Zzzzz’s as you can. If you’re getting your eight hours every night and you’re still drifting off while calculating molarity, try excusing yourself from class and splashing some cold water on your face. That should wake you right up.

Q4: I want to play frisbee on the quad, but I have class. What should I do?

A4: Well, reader, our answer to your question depends on a number of complex criteria. First off, are you a senior? If the answer is yes, then play frisbee. Senior spring, dawg. If you are not a senior, then go to class. It’s not your time yet.

Q5: I’m a prep, and I’m excited for my first spring term at Exeter. What’s the best way to enjoy spring term?

A5: After the long, cold months of winter term, spring is a time to relax, get outside and have fun. Try getting some Stillwells with friends, going for a walk in the woods, doing homework on the quad or just listening to some good music.

Q6: The weather is finally starting to heat up, which is great, but now everyone is taking their shirts off. I’m self conscious and don’t want to get half-naked in front of the whole school. What should I do?

A6: Just because other people are doing something doesn’t mean you have to do it, too. As your mother would say, if everyone jumped off of a bridge, would you? However, if you want to get that perfect spring term body, just hit the gym. Ask a friend or a coach for some help with a workout, and start lifting some weights. Take it from us—the secret to having a great body is having a great mentality.

That’s it for this week. Email jmalasek@exeter.edu with any questions. Adios, and enjoy the weather.

Yours truly,

Nolan and Jake
