Trendwatch

Hello, Trendsetters!

It’s Julia and Lexi, and we’re your new Trendwatch team! We are excited to write for you this year, and we’ll be watching for interesting ensembles and stylish combinations, so keep an eye out for your name in the paper. We’ll also be introducing a new feature of sponsors—if you would like to see your dorm/clique/sports team to appear in an issue, email us at either jbornemann@exeter.edu or abutler@exeter.edu, and we’ll set it up for you!

Moving on to campus: welcome back, spring—oh how we’ve missed you. Even though it’s only barely above freezing, people have been showing skin and embracing the (relative) warmth. This week, Claire Jutabha ‘18 looked adorable with a printed floral skirt, sweater and booties, channeling feel-good spring vibes while staying cozy. Looking magical, Owen Duke ‘16 wore an intricate unicorn-themed tie paired beautifully with his simple outfit. Brian Moriarty ‘16 was seen strutting around campus in his pastel blue trousers and oversized, vintage red and cream checked sweater. Colby Chaffin ‘15 was looking snazzy as always in his navy printed button-down and fitted pants. Paul Ahern ‘17 rocked the hipster street style with his AK-47 patterned sweatpants on the way to grab his morning coffee. We appreciated Mel Allan’s ‘15 combination of winter and spring vibes with her boyfriend-style linen pants and cozy oversized scarf. We can tell everyone is looking forward to warmer weather.

Everyone, mark your calendars for Apr. 19! We’re beyond excited for Target’s release of its Lilly Pulitzer collection. It will feature a women’s, girls’ and home series. We’ve already got our eye on a few of their vibrant statement palazzo pants and cropped eyelet tops.

With Seoul Fashion Week coming to an end, we’ve loved its street style scene, filled with athletic chic and a variety of textures, especially leather and neoprene, mainly featured in men’s fashion. Floral prints also made a regular appearance both in body art and on clothes and accessories. Much to our surprise, dyed hair was not as prominently featured as previously, and natural hair made a comeback, which, although unexpected, certainly worked well with the extravagant colors and textures of outfits. Speaking of textures, velvet accessories (bags, shoes, jewelry—everything) have been spotted all over runways and streets around the world. Although seemingly simple, they definitely add an element of spice to any outfit, drawing the eye to the ensemble with unusual texture—it’s a quick and easy addition to any campus closet that will surely make heads turn!

Until next week,

Julia and Lexi
