Trendwatch

Dear fabulous friends,

We saw many solid winter looks this week. NYC artist Will Cotton, who has painted Katy Perry (including her Teenage Dream album cover) and styled Elle Fanning for New York Magazine, visited campus this week, causing much excitement in the art community. Cotton wore a cream and red plaid button down under a navy and white striped sweater, paired with wool pants and lace-up winter boots. Normcore at its roots, yet subtly iconic in its execution, we loved the look, the man and everything he stands for.

Also on campus, Christian Lutete ‘15 impressed as always in a classy navy suit and pink tie with brown leather oxfords and colorful socks. He quite accurately captioned this look on his Instagram (@chris_theivth) as “Wolf on Wall Street.” Kenny Berger ‘15 also looked fabulous as usual in a white button down with subtle purple print, grey and blue striped tie, navy jacket, blue-grey pants and worn-in leather oxford shoes. Chair of the Religion Department Peter Vorkink called the look “very West Coast,” although we aren’t too sure how accurate that description is.

Yena Cho ‘16 wore a variety of fabulous mini skirts this week, an impressive feat in this weather. We especially liked her chic grey skirt with a zipper down the front and a classic red and white printed mini skirt. Philip Chang ‘15 looked warm in a unique navy blue sweater with red and grey argyle-esque pattern, reminiscent of Christmas.

Olive green also seemed to make waves this week. Ally Grounds ‘17 wore a chic, olive bomber jacket with gold baroque detailing, a nice touch of shine as we come to the end of this term. English Instructor Todd Hearon went for a more monochromatic look with an olive blazer, pants and button down shirt—a look that’s hard to pull off yet classic and clean when executed properly.

Tim Reitzenstein ‘15 pulled out brights this week with his cobalt, white and navy quarter-zip anorak with neon green accents.

As London Fashion Week comes to a close and New York Fashion Week seems further and further away, we cannot get NYFW’s final show out of our heads. The Blonds A/W15 line stunned and delighted us as they do every season. The pearl-laden, studded golden jumpsuits and plunging leotards complemented by luscious fur coats and vests made the dreams of becoming burlesque dancers that linger in the back of our minds resurface in the forefront. Their star-studded front row also didn’t help wean us from our obsession because who has gotten tired of Paris Hilton saying “that’s hot.” Not. Us.

Don't forget that Trendwatch applications are due at the end of the term! The application was in last week’s paper and is also posted on Facebook. Good luck, uppers!

Xoxo,

Millie and Helen
