Life Advice

Q1: Kids in my dorm are making fun of me for being too “soft.” They think guys shouldn’t show their emotions, and they think it’s weird that I write love songs and poems. What should I do to stop them from teasing me?

A1: First of all, let me assure you there’s nothing wrong with being soft. Just look at Drake; his songs have super soft lyrics, yet everyone loves him and he’s making bank. There’s nothing wrong or weird about guys writing poems or singing love songs—that’s just a stupid gender stereotype. If the teasing is getting out of hand, talk to your dorm faculty, advisor or one of your proctors/student listeners. Don’t give in to social pressure.

Q2: With winter term wrapping up, my hype for spring term has been building up. The thing is, I’m a prep so I have no idea why everyone is so excited about it. What are some fun activities to look forward to in the spring?

A2: Go on adventures with your homies. The town of Exeter has some really beautiful sights that will give you plenty of opportunities to take hipster Instagrams. Grab a group of friends, grab some Stillwells and go explore all that Exeter has to offer. If you’re looking for activities on campus, I know a lot of dorms play basketball outside of their dorms. There isn’t one specific way to enjoy spring term. As long as you make time to go outside and chill with your friends, you should have a good time.

Q3: What are some hidden gems in the town of Exeter? I’ve been here for more than three years now, and I feel like I’ve eaten at every single restaurant in town and I’ve done everything the town has to offer.

A3: I heard Station 19 has great value for its price. I don’t think many people know about it since it’s relatively new. I’ve heard it’s a great place to go for dates since it’s classy yet affordable. If you’re looking for secret gems to order, try the stir-fried udon noodles from Penang. You get a lot of food for the money, and Penang always delivers super quickly. For places to go, definitely check out the foundation. You can get to the foundation by taking a left after you go up the hill leading to the Exeter Public Library. You will find some pretty cool stuff there. It’s just one of those places you have to see for yourself so I won’t spoil anything.

Spring is on the way everyone. Finish this term well, and enjoy your breaks. Everybody get ready for the spring, and for those of you for which this upcoming term will be your last, let’s make it a good one.
