Life Advice

Ladies and gentlemen, this is a big moment in all of our lives. We have officially been writing Life Advice for a year. We’re honored, but most of all, we’re exhausted. We’ve learned a lot from your questions and hopefully we’ve taught you a lot. It’s been a pleasure to be able to bring Life Advice to our fellow Exonians, week after week, and we’re going to continue to do our best to keep every single one of you enlightened. Stay tuned and tell your friends. We love you all.Q1: How do I keep my room clean? I try to do my best, but I’m a busy gal and I always find myself in a midst of chaos. I just don’t have time to tidy up. Suggestions?OGYoosk: When trying to keep your room fresh, you need to be consistent. Try to clean your room at least once a week, preferably on the weekends when you have more time. Get some wet paper towels to wipe off the dust and vacuum your room. If you are willing to go the extra mile, invest in some Glade plugins so your room smells pleasant.OGSimpy: Speaking from experience, I’m a huge neat freak. If you ever have 10 minutes during uni-free or whenever you can find it, don’t lounge around on Twitter or Tinder or whatever you kids are up to these days. Make your bed, put all your dirty clothes in the hamper; do whatever you have to do to be pleased with your setup. It can really make a positive change in your day.Q2: How do I wake up on time?OGSimpy: I don’t know if I’m equipped to answer this question. Yusuke?OGYoosk: I recommend setting multiple alarms, each 15 minutes apart. If you have an iPhone you can choose what song you want to wake up to. A suggestion of a hype song to wake up to is “No Type” by Rae Sremmund. One thing I try (props to senior Jonathan Ye for the suggestion) is waking up and yelling something to pump myself up. Usually something along the lines of “Turn up” or “Who’s ready? I’m ready.” Another tactic: when it’s as cold as it is here in gloomy New England, I like to wake up and press my face to the freezing window for a few seconds. Also, if you have a hallmate (upper Tommy Song, preferably) to sing in the shower early in the morning, chances are you’re going to wake up a lot easier.Q3: I’m friends with this girl, and I have to admit, I’ve developed feelings for her. However, there are complications. I’m a little nervous to tell her. I don’t know if the time is right, and I don’t want to ruin a good thing; we’re really close friends already. What do I do?OGYoosk: As the great rapper Drake once said, “I never said it'd be fair but when you're all alone, I hope you truly know how bad I want to be there.”Q4: How do I stay warm and fashionable?OGSimpy: As wise senior Michael Baldyga once said, “I put comfort over style, and in doing so, I achieve…style.”Special guest this week is post-graduate, Liam Bradley.OGBrad:1. Wear overalls.2. Only eat kale.3. Cover your face with a bandana to keep nice and snug.4. A bright beanie that is almost falling off of your head at any time. For now, OGYoosk and OGSimpy signing off until next week. Adios.
