Only one season in, the legal drama show has a steady fan base with an average of 10.64 million views per episode.Although the show recently premiered on September 25th, it has already received high praise from both critics and audiences . “How to Get Away with Murder” has been nominated for two People’s Choice Awards. One of the major reasons for the success of the show is one of its producers, Shonda Rhimes, who is also the producer for many other hit shows including “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Scandal.”In the show, Annalise Keating, played by Viola Davis, is a strong minded criminal law professor and defense attorney. Every year, Annalise selects a small group of the smartest students with the highest potential to work for her at her law firm. The students she choose assist her in defending her various clients, ranging from a soccer mom turned terrorist to murderers. Annalise teaches her students to be ambitious like her and teaches them the ropes of defense law such as that discrediting the witness, finding a new suspect and burying the evidence are key to winning any case.The first season revolves around the murder of a college student named Lila Stangard. There are several suspects as to who murdered her including Annalise’s husband Sam and one of the law student’s neighbor. Evidence shows that the neighbor is the murderer, but there is also conflicting evidence which shows that it could possibly be Sam. Lying, cheating and distrust is commonplace on the show and creates tension between characters.“How to Get Away with Murder” has an unusual format, switching back and forth between present day plot lines and flash forwards in which pieces of a murder that the law students are involved in are revealed. While sometimes confusing, this show constantly keeps you on your toes as new secrets and plot twists are revealed.Overall, this suspenseful show full of betrayal and flash forwards will be sure to keep you engaged.
