Life Advice
Unfortunately, my dear friend Yusuke is out sick today. Hopefully he went out like he should have, some hot tea in the OG mug I gave him as a gift, and a movie pre-loaded on his laptop. My best wishes to Yoosk, and lets all take a moment of silence to pray that he doesn’t have hand foot mouth.
Q1: After my parents saw my mid-term grades, they decided to increase my ca$h flow. What are some of the best ways to spend your guap on campus?
OGSimpy: Well it depends. I like to think of myself as a growing man. One huge flaw of the dining hall is that for a senior like myself, it closes at 7pm, a full three hours before check in. Three hours is more than enough for me to get hungry again, so I’d go to sleep hungry every day if it weren’t for the blessings that are Penang & Tokyo, Supremes, Romeos, Szechuan, and Pad Thai. My favorites are the famous buffalo chicken calzone from Supreme’s, the large Romeo’s buffalo chicken sub with blue cheese tomato and lettuce from, and if I’m feeling alt I like to treat myself to a gyro from Romeos. Other essentials if you’re feeling hungry: mozzarella sticks (romeos), bubble tea (pad thai), crab rangoons (szechuan or penang and tokyo), fried rice, mango sticky rice, and seaweed salad (pad thai). Also, for all you newbies, Good Karma is NOW TAKING ORDERS! From 11:30a-2:30p and from 6p-9p, you can now get good karma to deliver you the over-priced, super hipster and healthy food of your choice to your dorm! Yes, YOUR DORM! Excluding the holy sabbath (Sunday), get excited cause we ‘bout to be feastin’.
OGSimpyAgain: truuuuuuu. also, stock up on that rice and get yourself a water boiler. If you get yourself some honey, earl gray tea and hot chocolate you’ll be getting your hourly dose of tea soon. ou can make yourself some earl gray tea and hot chocolate, you’ll be livin’ that lavish lifestyle. Too many of us don’t acknowledge the benefits of having a water boiler, just prepare for instant serenity whenever you wish.
Q2: What should be more of a priority: your social life or your academic life?
OGSimpy: Academic life, hands down. However, there are ways to balance the two. Take advantage of your free blocks and open time to do your homework whenever you can. If you actually turn off your alt-J or Bastille, you can sometimes get half of your homework done before class is over, depending on the number of frees you have.
OGSimpyAgain: The most effective tactic for efficiency is locking yourself in your room, as ridiculous as it sounds. The OGs of the hallway (the most knowledgeable in the dorm, including OGKoala, and OGEggo) learned this very quickly. OGYoosk and I lock ourselves in our rooms for a few hours on friday night and if you turn up hard enough on your homework, you can finish a weekend’s work before the weekend even begins. Then you can truly spend your sunday and saturday relaxing, or finishing up those college apps and going through those emails.
Q3: Halloween is approaching, and I’m looking to do something extraordinary. As a new student, I’m not sure if Exonians go trick or treating...also, some of my twenty year old PG friends are asking if they are "too old" to go trick or treating. Is there anything else fun to do? Any classic movies?
OGSimpy: Grab a friend, a few extra pillows and a comforter or two, cuddle up, and prepare to piss your pants. Throw on The Exorcist (1973), or play the online game Slenderman in honor of this Halloween. There will be some screams and some shrieks, but I can assure you you’ll leave that cozy a room a different person.
