S'more Rock, Please?

Lower Rebecca Ju dressed in a large Hawaiian shirt; senior Andres Mejia playing “Ain’t No Sunshine” on his acoustic guitar; senior Orlando Kahan wearing a velvet vest, holding his drumsticks. These are a few of the snapshots from this past Friday’s E.A.R, Exeter Association of Rock, concert, in which various on-campus musicians performed for their last time this academic year. One of the highlights of this E.A.R. concert was the large audience. Whether it was the s'mores that attracted them or the fact that it was the last E.A.R. concert of the year, Agora was packed with many students eager to watch their friends perform. Prep Issay Matsumoto, who performed two jazz songs at the concert with his fellow band members, reflected upon the audience that gathered for the night. “I think everything went well. The turnout was really good because the s'mores got a lot of people to come to the concert,” Matsumoto said. “Even though it was supposed to be outside, I don’t think that it being inside turned too many people off.” Matsumoto commented on the variety of the performances. “The acts were very diverse,” he said. “We had some classic rock like ‘Carry on Wayward Sun’ to some solo acoustic acts. The diversity was definitely a key point.” Performers noted that because the concert took place toward the end of the year, bands prepared extensively. Prep Niels Schrage said that he, along with his friends, practiced every night for a week in an effort to perfect their gig before the event. Regardless of the effort and time each performer put in, all performances turned out to be successful and earned much applause. Prep Emma Norton said that attending the event was well worth the hour and a half. “I went with my friends and we all had a lot of fun. I'm definitely planning on going to others next year,” she said. “I think E.A.R. concerts are some of the best events because everyone enjoys a fun rock concert, especially if you know the kids performing. It gives students and faculty an opportunity to showcase their talents.”
