Trendwatch

Happy Thursday, Exonians! Well, even though it might have snowed this week, spring is here! With warmer weather comes better looks, and we’ve been keeping our eyes out for our campus’ best looks. We’ve noticed that some of our fellow seniors have been blatantly disregarding the dress code, but on the whole you have all been looking fabulous.  Even though it might be a little bit early for shorts, pastel shirts, and bowties, we’ve seen some great, non-traditional spring looks to cope with the cooler early-spring weather.First off, cardigans have been a staple of many people’s wardrobes these first few weeks of the term. On a cooler morning, Abe Kopun ‘16 sported a navy blue knit cardigan that fit perfectly with his classic Euro style. This Czech knows what’s up—neutral colors are fantastic for the colder weeks of the spring. We’re in an awkward part of the term where we should leave dark winter colors behind but we’re not quite ready for the popping pastels, so Abe hit the nail on the head.April showers have certainly gave way to some great rain boot colors.  We love the short-boot trend, and some of our favorites have been the shiny teal booties of Mackenzie Lawrence ‘14 and the ladybug red pair sported by Danielle Sim ‘14.  We also loved the taller baby-pink boots belonging to none other than a gorgeous Millie Dethy ‘14. We are always impressed with her ability to rock a flowy summer blue-patterned dress one day and transition seamlessly so look equally impressive in the drizzle.Holden Hammontree ‘15 rocked a different variation of the early-spring cardigan look with thicker knitted cardigan on a windy day. Although the sweater was a darker color, he matched it with a blue shirt and bright tie that wasn’t too reminiscent of the winter.Nick Diao ‘15 almost always looks sharp. Early last week, Nick pulled out a horizontal wide striped button down.  The thick, uneven, navy and white stripes made for a unique look quite different from the usual vertical pinstripe oxford.  He paired this shirt with a thin black tie and suede shoes to make the whole look very modern-chic. Well done, guys!On the topic of sweaters, Kristina Elhauge ‘14 surprised us all this week with her unique fuzzy sweater. The pattern piece was overwhelmed (in the best way possible) with long strands of fuzz and pseudo-hair that made quite the spectacle. She never ceases to impress us with her eccentric outfits!  Often seen by Kristina’s side in equally eccentric outfits, we loved the retro look of Helen Edwards ‘15.  She sported this week.  The colorful red nylon puff coat matched with an equally cool white and teal old-fashioned nylon quarter zip showed off Helen’s fun, funky sense of style.Last call for Trendwatch writer applications! (Yes, we did extend the deadline a little).  This year’s Trendwatch writers are on the verge of graduating, and we’re looking for three style-conscious uppers to replace us to ensure our campus stays trendy.
