Trendwatch
Welcome back, Exonians! We hope you are staying warm in this cold streak! We love the array of puffy jackets, pea coats, warm scarves and cute hats we’ve seen on campus. Low temperatures don’t mean that you should forget fashion entirely! Do re- member, though, that functionality usually is fashionable (with Crocs being the exception to the rule—despite their functionality, Crocs will never be fashionable in public), so don’t try to traverse on ice in suede heels.Girls Cross Country led by example this week in the game of staying warm. Their new cream colored Patagonia fleeces look cozy, warm and cute, plus we love the team spirit! Well done Anika Ayyar ‘14 and Valerie Bright ‘14, girls cross country co-captains and master- minds behind this stellar team gear.Since we didn’t have the privilege of writing trend- watch the week before break, we’d like to point out a few of our favorite pre-break outfits as well as this week. Among them was Audrey DeGuerrera ‘16, who showed off her holiday best with a hand-knit ski-town-esque sweater. This red and white wool with an intricate, classic pattern looked comfy, but at the same time, a far cry from a chunky, lazy-day sweater. With a string of understated, yet charming pearls, this squash-gem looked polished but still ready to face the winter weather. The summer air encourages us to play around with color combinations and new looks, but wintertime can make it a struggle to simply put on clothes that match. Despite the short days and cold temperatures, a few ladies still experimented with their tones. Jenn Breen ‘17 proved to us that black is, and will always be, the new black. With an all-ebony ensemble, it’s easy to write off the person as too lazy to wear jeans or a skirt, or as merely having a case of the winter blues, but Jenn matched neither of these descriptions. Her structured top with a variety of patterns and an interesting blockier cut went above and beyond the dress code, and her sparkling smile showed a prep-enthusiasm that the seniors, trendwatch writers included, could use a healthy dose of.Before the break, In Essence graced EP with a stellar Christmas-themed musical ensemble. All rocking classic santa hats and some warm holiday sweaters, and with a good amount of snow falling outside, EP was the epitome of what Christmas should look (and sound) like! Well done, ladies. On the other hand, Harry Tibbetts ‘15 sported a Poinsettia-red Patagonia puffy vest, matched perfectly with a Santa Claus tie that added a perfect amount of holiday festivities and color to the dress code.Abe Kopun ‘16 came back to campus this week with something that none of us here at Trendwatch have ever seen before: a wooden bowtie. And while it’s true that bowties are obviously the best, one made out of wood brings them to a whole new level. Cool stuff, Abe.On a more wintry note, barn jackets have recently come right back into style as a sort of vintage-preppy revival, and who could possibly be any more preppy than Henry Lafond ‘16? Other than being the genius of the century, this guy’s been wearing a navy blue barn coat, unique with a coffee-brown corduroy collar that tops the whole piece off. Shout out to Henry for making everyone’s day a little bit preppier. We spotted Nate Moulton ‘14 dressed to impress even in the rainy weather. Suited up in a heavy tweed blazer, our senior class president always looks sharp and smart. Well done Nate, you’re a leader for us all.Stay warm and stay fashionable, Mia, Elle & Alec
