Lower Spotlight: Timur Luke
For most students, this past Tuesday was simply a regular school day. For lower Timur Luke, however, this was no ordinary Tuesday. After classes, instead of going to Elm St. Dining Hall to eat dinner like countless other Exonians, Timur returned to his dorm. He entered the building, walked into his room and shut the door. Timur shed his winter layers and removed his New England prep clothes. He ripped off his dress shirt and pulled a dark hoodie over his head. His clean khakis dropped to the floor and he put on a pair of jeans, slightly torn at the kneecaps. His polka-dotted necktie was replaced with precisely four gold chains. He grabbed his favorite pair of J’s from his tiny Cilley closet. He put on plastic shades. He was no longer Timur; he was the up and coming rapper T’Mo.
You must understand, for young Timur, Tuesday night was no date night. Tonight was the night his debut album “King of Kazakhstan” hit the streets of Exeter.
T’Mo obtained a record deal with Maybach Records after winning dozens of consecutive underground rap battles in Boston. His rhythmic vibe is one-of-a-kind, and his unique Kazakhstani heritage combined with a superb lyrical flow has made him unstoppable in the Boston scene.
During the day, he is just another Exonian, another lower. He studies hard, enjoys art and music and has an unusual passion for prep health. At night, he is known as T’Mo: The Middle Beast. Even some of the most skilled rappers fear battling this young legend. The Exeter Rap Association calls T’Mo “a prodigy in every sense, a foreigner yet an insider to the rap society.”
He is sure to win a Grammy. If you are lucky enough to catch T’Mo/Timur on campus, make sure to stop him and ask for some freestyle. All he needs is a simple beat, and I can personally guarantee you that he will spit supah hot fire.
