A Letter From a Far Away Land
My dearest fans of the Humor Page,For those of you who don’t know because you don’t follow me on Instagram, I’m away for the fall term in England. I have left behind the love of my life and fellow editor, Ben Hogoboom to look pensively out the window of the Exonian office and await my return. But fear not, my darlings! I will still be contributing even from across the pond, and together, I hope we can mock the Brits. The first thing all of us American Exonians in England did when we arrived in our cottages was set up the wifi. Then we fired up Tinder and got to swipin’. For a farm in the middle of the English countryside, we were all surprised at how many teens were ripe for the taking (or, matching, really). A great moment of group bonding was when the sun set over the farm, the trees and gardens alight with a dim glow, and all four of the girls in the cottage sat in the living room, silently swiping. One may think that Tinder speaks the universal languages of lust and love, but there were a few differences that left us lost in translation. Thankfully, on an adventure in town, we spotted prime Tinder British-to-English translators: tween girls. Below are a few lessons our foreign friends taught us, and some keen differences between American and British online dating teens:1. British boys like posting pictures of their bums.2. “U ok” is not them telling you that you’re alright (for an American, at least) or asking about your emotional stability, but rather a cool, casual greeting like “yo, what’s good?”3. British girls are fond of “moments,” or pictures you can post on Tinder for a 24 hour period, like a Snapchat story.4. American accents are a good thing.6. All British people have the same name and haircut. There you have it friends. Stay tuned for the following weeks as I use my diplomatic immunity as Humor Editor Correspondent to navigate teen life abroad.Cheers,Katie
