Superbowl Sunday
So I was watching the Super Bowl in Coach Shang’s apartment this year, hanging with the coolest people on Earth, my fellow advisees. I think the Seattle Seagulls beat the Denver Ponies in a tight game 43-8, and according to the kids who understand sports in the dorm, Bruno Mars got more time on the field than Peyton Manning! Anyways, enjoying football and eating food really reminded me of the days when I used to play ball, back in good old Boy Scouts...It was a moist, Saturday afternoon: the leaves on the trees glistened with Floridian raindrops, the sun was radiating genial rays and even the blades of glass seemed to stand upright, as if they were anticipating the epic game of football about to be played between the Shark and Pirate patrol. I remember feeling so manly. Some of my chest hairs were singed by flying bubbles of bacon grease in the morning because I failed to protect myself while I was cooking. I was also slightly dehydrated, but feeling a little loopy, was just how I liked it. Our team discussed our strategy before we headed into the mud-covered field. We were supposed to run in circles until one of us were open and then catch the ball and spring. If they were getting to close to us, I think we were supposed to switch directions...or something. That game, I was the running back/tight end/quarterback/ wide receiver. We probably had four successful plays, but we capitulated, and scored on each one. The game was close, patrol on patrol action was eminent. The game continued until the latter part of the night, like some kind of child warfare. We didn’t even stop until one of the younger kids skinned his knee twice. All together, my team fought like champions. We were unstoppable, like the Miami Dolphins when they were in the zone. The game was tight, . As I scored the touchdown, I threw the football in between my legs and proceeded to do the “worm” on the soft dirt. That day, I truly felt like an American... until my patrol told me I ran into the other endzone and decided not to give me any dinner.
