on behalf of the 147th Board of The Exonian

Dear Editors of Board CXLVI,

During your tenure this past year, you have pushed The Exonian towards the height of its potential, achieving feats that have significantly advanced our paper’s impact on campus. You helped to magnify the voices of countless Exonians and dealt with the most pressing issues on campus with a strong hand, moving always with an air of purpose and professionalism. You shifted The Exonian from a bi-weekly to weekly publication schedule and spurred the paper’s first foray into the realm of videography. For this, we thank you. Your imprint on The Exonian has and will continue to be felt.

Since you showed us the importance of taking new initiatives, we have decided to outline some new directions we wanted to take The Exonian. Our two-pronged vision is to increase relevance and quality. Though likely not as impressive or impactful as switching to a weekly cycle, here are some of the ideas of the CXLVII Board:

We aim to increase our digital presence through more videography, photography, and art initiatives. You started us off by encouraging us to plan videos for important events on campus, such as our Parents’ Weekend Youtube Video. Continuing this trend, we introduced ourselves with a short video — we hope you enjoyed the reference to the “Friends” introduction scene. Going forward, we will cover events on campus with more digital content, such as 60-second assembly recap videos, cartoons, and photos of the week. You have equipped us with a very talented team of artists, and we’re excited to share their hard work.

We plan to engage with the student body more with polls and external submissions. Again, your courage to try new ways to connect with the community — such as the anonymous online opinion submissions on Instagram before the 2024 U.S. elections — encouraged us to brainstorm more ways to get our community’s diverse perspectives. We hope to increase submissions for Letters to the Editor and utilize news tips to cover events that we may overlook.

Last but not least, you showed us the importance of the Editorial Board working closely with the Web and Business Boards. We promise to finish what you have started, such as The Exonian’s new website and advancements in advertisements. We will also try completely new things. We plan to begin translations into different languages with the Web Board. With the Business Board, we will work together to create newspaper flyers — small inserts that go into every issue containing news about upcoming events on campus alongside advertisements and coupons for restaurants in town.

We wanted to express our deepest gratitude. We will carry on your inspiring legacy as we move forward in serving the Academy community.

Once more, we thank you for your leadership.
