Boys and Girls Varsity Soccer (2023-2024)

By LILY RAMPE ‘26

Despite their record, the boys’ and girls’ varsity soccer teams played hard and got better this season. The girls team ended with a 2-16-1 while the boys ended with a 6-12 record.

The team became closer throughout the girls’ season, lifting each other up even after tough loses and remained hopeful of turning the season around. Midway through the season, lower Morgan Signore said, “We’ve been feeling pretty good, a little bit frustrated about the actual turnout of the record because I know we’re playing so much harder than it’s being depicted like on the score sheets. I think with injuries and our current record, it’s a little harder to pick things up, but we’re still feeling very hopeful.”

Co-coach Diego Ardua added, “We felt that we did a terrific job defensively. Now we need to start controlling more of the game offensively: connect more passes, possess more of the ball, and create more opportunities. I feel that this is going to be a very important season for us. We have had many injuries in our senior and upper class, and this has opened up space for our younger players to get more minutes and further develop. It’s been very rewarding to see them step up to the challenge and compete against older players.”

“For me, it kind of stinks to lose, but it’s a developmental thing. You lose, but you also learn from these really good teams that you’re playing and that’ll only benefit our team more,” Lower Ella Shea said.

One of the boys team’s major wins was against Cushing Academy. Prep Max Sahinoglu said, “We did well [in] encouraging each other. We’re moving the ball around pretty well and finishing our chances.”

“Even though it was wet, I think we played pretty well. It was one of our best performances and a lot of our players were able to get playing time. After the game everyone was hyped and had a great time,” lower Kofi Annan-Brown added.

After their victory against Cushing, the boys team Brewster Academy, Dexter School, St. Paul’s School, and Austin Prep. Although they had a disappointing 2-0 loss at E>a, they are determined to come back stronger next year.
