Boys and Girls Varsity Lacrosse (2023-2024)

As two of the most successful teams of the spring season, it’s important to reflect on what got them there. Although their seasons haven’t ended yet, the boys and girls have already obtained notable records of 12-4 and 10-4, respectively. This success derives from not only the valuable and hard work both teams put into their practices, but also the coaching staff, athletic facilities, and athletic trainers.

The boys started their season strong, including wins against Thayer, Holderness, Tilton, and Cushing. Their preseason trip in Florida and the weeks preceding their first game prepared them thoroughly to earn these wins. Head Coach Bill Glennon effectively balanced his practices with conditioning and real game situations.

When asked about the team’s back-to-back wins on April 5 and 6, Quinn Smith commented, “Our victory against Tilton on the road refreshed our players for the Saturday game against Cushing,” Smith continued. “Last year, we had a challenging game against Cushing and prevailed by only one point. Our team was geared up for a dogfight this year and expected a challenging game.” The energy of the team is nourished by the commitment held by each member, as well as the leadership present. Captains Aidan Olazbal, Baron Masopust, Reid Burke, and Brendan Logan have put significant effort into fostering a tight-knit community, which will allow the team to hopefully take down Andover on May 25.

On the girls’ side, captains Amelia Byerly, Caroline Shu, and Esme Shields have been working alongside Coach Caldwell to bring the team to a 10-4 record. The work ethic and communal bond on this team is among the greatest on campus, and it shows in their success against other teams.

Senior Sally Hunter shared, “Amelia, Esme and Carol are such hard workers and they’re constantly pushing us to do our best. They’re so supportive and the hardest workers on the team.”  Not only that, but they’re also effective teachers. Senior Sophia Dabney noted, “They all lead by example and are very vocal during the team huddles.” The culture and hard work within this team has allowed them to pull off notable wins against St. Paul’s and Loomis in overtime.

Unfortunately, all of the amazing captains and other seniors within these two teams are heading off next year, but the impact they’ve made on the mindsets of their teammates will be lasting.
